Edna McLemore Obituary

“A man’s most precious jewel is the woman who walks by his side.”

Edna Sue McLemore of Fordsville, Ky, formerly of Athens, Tx , went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at the Heartford House in Owensboro Ky following an almost four-year battle with Parkinson’s and dementia.

Edna Sue was born in Athens Tx on February 21, 1943 to Richard Leo and Verlone Sue Harris. She lived a life that was completely devoted to her family. Edna Sue loved to sew. When the girls were young, she made every Easter dress they wore and was usually up sewing past midnight. She also loved to cook. Any time the tobacco field was full of boys working, she always fixed a full-course meal. To this day these former boys, who are now grown, still comment on how good a cook she was. Edna Sue retired from the Ohio County Clerk’s Office. She had also worked many years at the polls and loved every minute of it. She was a devoted fan of the Texas A&M University Aggies. Her house bled maroon through and through. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Fordsville. Edna Sue was a proud Kentucky Colonel, a long-time member of the Fordsville Lions Club and dedicated member of the Board of Directors for the Fordsville Fire Department. On April 21st 1962, Edna Sue married the love of her life and high school sweetheart Don R. McLemore. Together they built a beautiful life and moved to Kentucky in 1964, raising 3 daughters and celebrating 5 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Along with her parents, Edna Sue was preceded in death by her brother Richard Mike Harris and son-in-law Joel Mattingly.

Edna sue is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Don R. McLemore; daughters Donna Sue (Bruce) Flannery of Louisville, Dianna (Davey) Vincent of Fordsville, and Denise Clark (Tim Bullington) of Fordsville; grandchildren Aaron Flannery, Austin Flannery, Samantha (Tyler) Kessinger, Savannah (TJ) Lucht, and Garrett Bellamy; her precious great-grandchildren Bentley Kessinger and Eleanor Kessinger.
